Martin Luther King
MarĂa S. (6B) was the first person to tell me the correct answer and she won a prize.
- He won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
- He was an American civil rights leader.
- He fought for racial equality (for black and white people to have equal rights).
- He made a very famous speech in Washington in March 1963 which began with the words, "I have a dream."
- He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee on 4th April, 1968.
Martin Luther King was born on 15th January, 1929 (ninety years ago) and every year Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on the third Monday of January to remember him. This year MLK Day is on 21st January.
